IRB's Announcement on Restructuring of Payment Centre Counter Services

In line with the Government's aspiration to increase the usage of online payment (e-payment) and to improve the efficiency of tax collection process, the Inland Revenue Board ["IRB"] has announced on 9th February 2021 that a restructuring of payment centre counter services will be carried out in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Please refer to the media announcement dated 9th February 2021.

Commencing from 1st April 2021, the service counters at the IRB payment centre will only receive payments for the following:-

real property gains tax i.e. 3% retention sum by acquirers under Section 21B of the Real Property Gains Tax Act 1970;
income tax of public performers (travelling artistes);
withholding tax;
compound payment; and
income tax payment via debit / credit cards.
 

The IRB will stop receiving other types of payments at the service counters which can only be made by using the following methods of payment:-

ByrHasil - online payment platform by the IRB;
online / internet banking of commercial banks appointed as the collection agents;
payment counters of Pos Malaysia and appointed commercial banks;
cash / cheque deposit machine (appointed commercial banks); and
ATM (appointed commercial banks).
 

To perform the payment transactions via Pos Malaysia, banks and e-payment mediums, the information required are:-

income tax file reference number;
name and identity card number;
year of assessment and instalment number;
tax payment code; and
amount of payment.
 

The confirmation slips of payments at Pos Malaysia and banks or valid transaction confirmation slips will be accepted by the IRB as proof of payment / payment receipt.
